Gossage appointed to crime prevention council

Apex Councilman Bryan Gossage was appointed to the Wake County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council at the Wake County Commissioner's January 8 meeting.

The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) partners with the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice to allocate state resources aimed at reducing and preventing juvenile crime.

The JCPC's responsibilities include reviewing the needs of "at-risk" juveniles in Wake County, developing strategies to intervene, respond to and treat the needs of the individuals, and provide funds for treatment counseling, or rehabilitation services.

Members of the JCPC include staff from the Wake County Sheriff, District Attorney, and County Manager's offices, as well as a local police chief, district court judge, and other members of the community and the juvenile justice system.

"I'm appreciative of the opportunity to serve Wake County in this capacity," Gossage said of the appointment.  "It's great to be part of the process finding programs that best help at-risk kids get headed in the right direction."

Wake County Commissioner's Chair Tony Gurley nominated Gossage to the post.  The position is voluntary and Gossage will remain on the Apex Town Council.  Prior to serving on the JCPC Gossage served on the Wake County Library Commission for a two-year term that ended in 2006.
