Nearly a dozen politicians turned out last Thursday night for the Apex Chamber of Commerce’s first-ever Elected Officials Reception.

The event, which was attended by about 75 chamber members, was held at the EMC Corporation on Technology Drive.

NC Representative Paul Stam, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison, Wake County commissioners Tony Gurley and Phil Jefreys, Clerk of Superior Court Jan Peuschel, county school board members Ron Margiotta and Bill Fletcher, Apex Mayor Keith Weatherly and town commissioners Mike Jones, Gene Schulze and Bryan Gossage were all in attendance.

“I thought it was a wonderful turnout and I met a lot of interesting people,” said chamber member Judy Prestridge. “I just wanted to meet some of the officials and see who they are.”

“It was important to come out and get to know the people in the chamber as well as the elected officials,” said Renie Graham. “I think this was a very good event and I was glad to see them do it.”

The reception was held as a way for chamber members to meet elected officials one-on-one in an informal setting.

“I just wanted to come out and meet the officials and see who is running for office this fall,” said Glynis Young. “We feel like we are being called to help turn our country around. So we came here to so how we could get our feet wet.”
